Control System Design for Precision Engineering
Applications
About Perry Automation
Perry Automation was founded by engineers who met at the University
of Florida’s Machine
Tool Research Center
while conducting their graduate research. After completing their graduate
studies, they decided to combine their talents and pursue a business related
to the vast and challenging field of precision motion control.
The Partners:
President: Christopher D. Mize, Ph.D., P.E.
Dr. Mize received his Bachelor’s degree from Auburn
University in 1987 in Mechanical
Engineering. After graduation he began work as a mechanical design engineer,
designing components for military gas turbine engines. This worked piqued his
desire for further education, and he enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering
graduate school at the University
of Florida in 1991. His research
involved designing laser interferometer based measurement equipment to
evaluate the motion control systems on machine tools. After completing his
Master’s degree in 1993, he went into business with his graduate adviser
promoting and developing a new laser based measurement technology they
developed. During this period he also pursued his Doctoral degree focusing on
real time compensation in the control system of a machine tool to mitigate
thermally induced errors. Dr. Mize is also a registered Professional Engineer
in the State of Florida.
Vice President: Matthew R. Dean
Mr. Dean received his Bachelor's degree from the University
of Florida in 1995 in Mechanical
Engineering. After graduation he joined
the Machine Tool Research Center under the direction of Dr. Jiri Tlusty. Mr. Dean focused his research on improving
milling machine efficiency with two important topics. First, he developed advanced high-bandwidth
control techniques using linear motors to increase axis speed and
precision. Next, he worked in the field
of adaptive chatter detection and avoidance to improve cutting conditions on
milling machines. With this research, Mr.
Dean earned his Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University
of Florida in 1999.
Founder: Charles A. Perry, P.E.
Mr. Perry received his Bachelor’s degree from the University
of Florida in 1991 in Mechanical
Engineering. After graduation he continued his previous work in the motion
control field. His work experience included design and implementation of
motion control equipment for printed circuit board assembly, injection
molding, medical equipment inspection, paper processing equipment, and ride
control systems for the entertainment industry. Between work assignments, with
a desire to further his education, he completed a Master’s degree in
Mechanical Engineering specializing in motion control. His research involved
designing and building a control system for a new parallel architecture
coordinate measuring machine. Mr. Perry is also a registered Professional
Engineer in the State of Florida.
Mission Statement:
To provide engineering design, testing, and construction services to our
customers in the field of motion control systems, covering the complete
spectrum from the simple to the most demanding precision applications.
